The Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics is pleased to provide a platform to share Alabama employment opportunities for Chapter members. Currently, opportunities exist in the following locations:

Birmingham

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Pediatrics is seeking to hire a physician for the Child Abuse Pediatrics Division (CAP). This is a clinical faculty position providing direct patient care, as well as responsibility for teaching.  Additionally there are opportunities for clinical research based on the interest of the faculty member.  The full-time academic position is open to a physician who is board certified or board eligible in Child Abuse Pediatrics, or in General Pediatrics with a strong interest in child abuse.

The Department of Pediatrics has a strong record of academic achievement and provides education to pediatric residents, medical students, and numerous subspecialty fellows via electives, lectures, and other clinical experience. The UAB Child Abuse Pediatrics Division has an active clinical & academic program providing medical consultative services for more than half of the state. The division provides inpatient and outpatient consultations at the Children’s of Alabama, a private, non-profit children’s hospital which is a Level 1 Trauma Center and is the only free-standing children’s hospital in the state with a complete complement of subspecialty services. The new faculty member will join an established team of 3 physicians currently in the division. In addition, there is a large full service pediatric SANE program providing 24/7/365 service for pediatric assault victims in the ED. Outpatient consultations are seen in the Children’s Hospital Intervention & Prevention Services (CHIPS Center) immediately adjacent to the hospital. The CHIPS Center is part of the CAP Division and includes 2 social work case managers, a PSANE RN, and several counselors providing counseling and community child abuse preventative services in addition to the medical services at the outpatient center. The CHIPS Center is the primary medical resource for 18 of the 35 child advocacy centers in Alabama. 

The ideal candidate will qualify for an appointment at the Assistant of Associate level within UAB and will be an MD, DO, or MD/PhD who is licensed or eligible for license in the state of Alabama. Positions offer competitive salaries along with a comprehensive benefits package. Rank, salary and tenure status will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate and will consist of a guaranteed salary as well as a generous incentive plan linked to productivity.

Birmingham

Pediatrician

Jefferson County (AL) Health Department (JCDH) is seeking a Pediatrician to provide a variety of medical care in the medical specialty area of pediatrics including health care needs of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. The Pediatrician’s work is performed under the administrative direction of the Health Center Administrator and under the medical direction of the Medical Director, but requires considerable independent judgment and decision-making regarding diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients. The Pediatrician’s job duties include taking patients' medical histories, examining patients, ordering any necessary medical tests, and creating a plan of treatment for the patient.  

Minimum Qualifications Requirements

·       Possession of an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Alabama or ability to obtain an Alabama license prior to beginning employment (e.g., currently licensed to practice medicine in another State within the U.S.).

·       Completion of an accredited pediatric residency program prior to beginning employment.

·       Possession of a Basic Life Support Certification.
