Disaster preparedness is not something that we were taught in medical school and it is often not at the top of the list in busy pediatric practices that must master myriad anticipatory guidance measures to keep patients health and safe.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recently provided Chapters with grant dollars to bolster pediatricians’ knowledge and use of resources to educate their families as well as their staff to be ready for such emergencies. As your Disaster Preparedness Ambassador, I want to make sure you are connected to these resources and learn more about the emergency services that exist in your area as well as healthcare coalitions that exist throughout the state. We have a unique opportunity to guide these existing services on the unique needs of children, and also educate ourselves about systems in place so that we are better prepared during disasters, particularly weather events, which are common in our state. I hope you will take advantage of the links below. This will be an ongoing process, and so reach out to me if you would like to get more involved in your area. My contact information is at the bottom of the page.
